after she graduated from high school. Elder of 2 daughters born to Irv and Joni Richards. She began working as a model, and moved to L.A. She grew up in the Chicago area, until the family relocated to Oceanside, CA when Denise was 15.

When she was 15 her father attacked her mother, and her mother shot him in self-defense. He died, but her mother was not charged in the incident.
