Famke was born in Holland, where she began her professional career as a model. She later moved to the United States, where she has made her home since 1984.

• Has an older brother named Bob who works in the computer field, and a younger sister, Genevieve who is a theater designer.
• Her hobbies are music, sports (hiking, biking, skiing, and mountain climbing) and interior design.

• Founded and ran a world development and human rights committee at her university. She has lived under a grass hut in the jungles of the Philippines with a missionary group, and has been a volunteer for children’s projects since the age of 14.

• She is a cat-lover who owns a cat named Luna. When Luna has kittens, she named one of them Dumbledore. Her other cat Crookshanks died in 2006.
• Speaks Dutch, German, English, and French.
